The Scottish Terrier, affectionately known as the Scottie, is a compact and sturdy breed bursting with personality. Standing at about 10 inches tall and weighing around 20 pounds, these little dogs are known for their independence and confidence. Their dignified, almost human-like character, combined with their persistent terrier spirit, has earned them the nickname 'the Diehard. ' The Scottie's silhouette is unmistakable, with its short legs, substantial body, and distinctive furnishings on the beard, legs, and lower body. Their wiry topcoat, paired with a soft, dense undercoat, can be black, wheaten yellow, or brindle-striped, giving them a unique and charming appearance. Scotties are known for their bright, piercing eyes, erect ears, and tail, which convey their keen alertness, a hallmark of Britain's terrier breeds. They have a businesslike, efficient working style and are aloof towards strangers, making them excellent watchdogs. However, their strong hunting instincts can be a challenge, particularly around smaller animals like cats. Scotties can also be somewhat cantankerous with other dogs. Despite these traits, they are incredibly affectionate with their families, scoring high on family affection levels. These bold and clever dogs thrive on mental stimulation and enjoy brisk walks and playful activities. With their lively nature and spirited disposition, the Scottish Terrier makes a delightful and loyal companion for those who appreciate their unique blend of independence and affection.
