Pyrenean Mastiff

The Pyrenean Mastiff, hailing from the Pyrenees Mountains in Spain, is a centuries-old breed originally tasked with protecting livestock from wolves, bears, and thieves. This stately and tender giant stands about 30 inches tall and weighs around 155 pounds, embodying both strength and gentle affection. Known for their bravery, they remain effective guardians and loyal companions. They are calm, noble, and very intelligent, often alerting their family to strangers while maintaining a friendly demeanor towards humans and a gentle nature with children. Their protective instincts make them vigilant, yet they are not incessant barkers. The Pyrenean Mastiff has a low prey drive, allowing them to coexist peacefully with other animals. They require moderate grooming due to their straight, rough double coat, and while they are drool-prone, their loving nature more than compensates. Despite their independent streak, they form strong bonds with their families, offering a blend of companionship and security that is both endearing and reassuring.
